Old Stamfield welcomed Bournemouth to Banbury on 15 August 2025 for an eagerly anticipated league encounter, kicking off at 8:00pm. The home side emerged victorious in a pulsating 4-2 win after 90 minutes of action, much to the delight of the 22,110 fans in attendance. Referee Anthony Taylor oversaw the match, which was marked by attacking flair and tactical adjustments, with one controversial decision towards the end of the first half opting not to send of bournemouths Senussi for a handball which denied Liverpool an attack. The decision was cleared by the VAR official Michael Oliver.

Old Stamfield deployed a 4-1-3-2 formation, aiming to balance defensive solidity with creative midfield support and a potent two-pronged attack. Alex Dos Santos took his place between the sticks as goalkeeper, with Rory Stride operating as right defender, Taiwo Ejuke and Eduardo Fuenzalida anchoring the central defence, and Florian Sarosi covering the left defensive flank. In midfield, Dominic Wilkinson occupied the solitary central midfield role, tasked with shielding the backline and distributing play. Ahead of him, the attacking midfield trio featured Sam Jones on the right, Fredrik Wirz centrally, and William Wilngrove on the left, all expected to link up with the front two forwards, Jamie Johnson on the right and Hugo Lamy on the left. The substitutes named were Eduardo Camavinga, Sam Miller, Antoine Todibo, Romeh Serratton, and Archie Newbold.

The match began with Old Stamfield asserting control, though it was not without its disciplinary moments. At 26 minutes, William Wilngrove received a yellow card for unsporting behaviour, a caution that served as an early warning for the home side. Despite this, Old Stamfield’s attacking intent soon bore fruit.

In the 38th minute, Hugo Lamy produced a moment of individual brilliance to open the scoring. Receiving a short pass from Wilngrove outside the box, Lamy embarked on a solo run before firing a precise right-footed strike into the net. This goal injected confidence into the home team as the first half drew to a close with Old Stamfield leading.

The interval arrived with the scoreline at 1-0, setting the stage for a compelling second half. Old Stamfield made a tactical substitution at 63 minutes, bringing on Eduardo Camavinga for Fredrik Wirz to inject fresh energy into the midfield. Simultaneously, Sam Miller replaced the goal scorer Hugo Lamy, signalling a shift in attacking options.

The second half saw Old Stamfield extend their lead rapidly. Just 10 minutes after the restart, Eduardo Camavinga volleyed home a right-footed strike from a cross delivered by Jamie Johnson, showcasing excellent technique and timing. The momentum continued as Jamie Johnson himself doubled the advantage a minute later, converting a long pass from substitute Romeh Serratton with a composed left-foot finish inside the box.

Old Stamfield were relentless, and at 58 minutes, Sam Jones added a third goal with a neat left-footed finish inside the box, assisted by Jamie Johnson’s short pass. This quick-fire trio of goals between the 55th and 58th minutes put Old Stamfield firmly in control.

Bournemouth, however, responded with two quick goals of their own. At 75 minutes, they capitalised on a goalmouth scramble, slotting home from close range with a right-footed effort. Barely a minute later, Bournemouth struck again with a long-range right-footed strike from outside the box, reducing the deficit to 4-2 and setting up a tense finale.

Old Stamfield made further tactical changes to shore up their defence and maintain their lead. At 79 minutes, Antoine Todibo replaced central defender Taiwo Ejuke, while Romeh Serratton came on for left defender Florian Sarosi. Later, at 83 minutes, Archie Newbold was introduced for right attacking midfielder Sam Jones, aiming to refresh the midfield and preserve the advantage.

Discipline remained a factor as Rory Stride was shown a yellow card for unsporting behaviour in the 85th minute, adding to the earlier caution for Wilngrove. Despite these challenges, Old Stamfield held firm to secure the win.

Jamie Johnson was deservedly named Player of the Match for his influential role, contributing a goal and two assists that proved decisive in Old Stamfield’s attacking display. The home side’s blend of tactical discipline, individual skill, and timely substitutions ensured a memorable victory over Bournemouth in front of a passionate Banbury crowd.
