Old Stamfield welcomed Reading to Banbury on 10 May 2026 for a crucial league encounter, kicking off at 4:30pm. The home side produced a commanding performance to secure a 3-0 victory, much to the delight of the 22,165 spectators in attendance. Referee Chris Kavanagh oversaw the 90 minutes plus added time with a steady hand.

Old Stamfield lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, deploying Giorgi Guliashvilli in goal. The defensive line consisted of Rory Stride at right back, Taiwo Ejuke and Eduardo Fuenzalida as central defenders, and Florian Sarosi on the left. In midfield, Dominic Wilkinson and Sam Miller operated as the two central midfielders, tasked with both defensive cover and linking play. Ahead of them, the attacking trio featured Sam Jones on the right wing, William Wilngrove centrally as the attacking midfielder, and Rio Ngumoha on the left. Leading the line was Eduardo Camavinga as the lone striker. The substitutes named were Ben Spencer, Romeh Serratton, and Fredrik Wirz.

The match burst into life early on when Sam Miller opened the scoring in the eighth minute. Receiving a short pass from Rio Ngumoha, Miller unleashed a powerful right-footed strike from distance that left the Reading goalkeeper with no chance. This early goal set the tone for Old Stamfield’s dominance.

As the game progressed, Reading struggled to break down a well-organised home defence marshalled by Ejuke and Fuenzalida. Old Stamfield’s midfield duo of Wilkinson and Miller controlled the tempo, with Miller particularly influential in driving the team forward.

In the 37th minute, William Wilngrove doubled the lead with a superb direct free-kick. Sam Jones delivered a precise set-piece, curling the ball over the wall and into the net with his right foot. This goal was a testament to Wilngrove’s technical ability and Jones’s dead-ball expertise.

The first half concluded with Old Stamfield firmly in control, leading 2-0 at the interval. The visitors had offered little in response, unable to penetrate the home side’s defensive lines.

Early in the second half, Sam Miller’s industrious performance was marred by a yellow card for persistent infringements in the 55th minute. Despite this, Miller continued to influence the game until the 63rd minute when tactical substitutions were made. Miller was replaced by Ben Spencer, while Rio Ngumoha made way for Romeh Serratton, signalling a shift to fresh legs and renewed energy on the flanks.

In the 71st minute chelsea, scored through Fernandez after a goalmouth scramble. However following examination by VAR the goal was chalked off. Pedro was found by VAR to have been in an offside position in the buildup.

The changes paid dividends as Spencer marked his introduction with a headed goal in the 81st minute. Assisted by a header from Eduardo Camavinga, Spencer rose close to the goal to nod home, sealing the emphatic 3-0 victory for Old Stamfield.

Shortly after, in the 84th minute, Florian Sarosi was substituted for Fredrik Wirz as the home side looked to maintain their defensive solidity and see out the match comfortably.

Old Stamfield’s 4-2-3-1 formation proved effective throughout, with the full-backs supporting the attack and the midfielders balancing defensive duties with creative impetus. Camavinga’s role as the striker was pivotal, not only in leading the line but also in providing the assist for the final goal.

Sam Miller was deservedly named Player of the Match for his commanding presence in midfield and his opening goal that set the tone for the encounter.

In summary, Old Stamfield delivered a comprehensive and clinical performance to secure all three points against Reading at Banbury, maintaining their strong league position with a 3-0 home win.
