CUP QTR FINAL: Hook Panthers 0 v 1 Churt Chargers     Panthers oh so close to reversing the chargers (Chris copyright)   Wow, what a fantastic theatre of football we had today. CD was suggesting we write a spectator report, commenting on the cheering contribution of every parent on the sidelines, but that is for another day.  All I would say is that the parents today went to another level. Mr MG appeared to be the ringleader/conductor, introducing new and exciting football chants... The boys loved it and it seemed to really spur them on.     After quite a bit of rain and a match on before ours, the pitch was very soft and certainly very heavy, but still quite playable. Right from the start, Churt Charged at Hook, playing quick decisive football requiring last gasp interceptions and some saves from keeper RE. We spent much of the first half in our own half, with big gaps appearing between defence and attack. When we tried to play it out, we a little slow so that opposition were on us, breaking down our passing. Eventually the pressure told and wonderful turn and strike from Churt put the premierships leaders in front.  We had the occasional attack, one of those led to Rob trying to chip the keeper with his left foot, but didn't quite come off. At half time a drink was welcome for all, as it was quite a warm morning and the boys were putting large amounts of effort.  We spoke once again about playing quicker, making decisions and moving the ball quicker. In addition we needed to avoid the midfield dropping so deep.   Right from the start of the second half we played at a much higher tempo. Churt were playing a high line in defense and were slightly vulnerable to the counter. This happened on a few occasions, one a super pass from JC put EHe through, but some very switched on goalkeeping prevented the equaliser. EH had a terrific shot from wide left that was tipped wide by the keeper. EHe worried them greatly upfront, often keeping two defenders busy. Cannot ignore the terrific attack play by Churt that led to a lot of half chances, but the committed defensive work of JR and OK often kept them out. ON in the last few minutes did a couple of very good defensive interceptions as we pushed on. JF, on more than one occasion stepped across to intercept further up the pitch, allowing pressure to be taken away from defence.   EH, RD had covered a lot of ground in midfield and are starting to form a good understanding..   We cannot deny that we were eventually beaten by a superior team, with 2-3 exceptional players, that are used to play at that level of intensity every week.  Don't know about you, but not sure I could watch that every week!!!   I was very proud of the boys today, in the second half they were simple brilliant,. in effort, focus and application.

Once again, thank you for the ridiculous support today, particularly Mr MG and MG, just sorry that MG was cup tied.
