Away league match played on 31 March 2012.
Kicked off at 2:00 PM

"We huffed and we puffed but ultimately couldn't blow the bloody doors off!"

A frustrating day for the Rotten. Macca had it right at half time, calling for more quality but no less effort. It would have been unfair to slate the team for a lack of effort, as this was not the evidence from the performance. We pretty much maintained the same team that won so spectacularly last weekend away to Sarratt. The players deserved this chance.

In the first half we started a bit slowly, and perhaps the first 15 minutes belonged to the home team. However we started to find out rhythm, and were soon pushing Hunton back. Bear in mind this team signed on four players before the game, it was always going to be a bit of a lottery as to what we got. In fairness they can’t have been bad players, as they gave us a game!

With Macca’s encouragement ringing in our ears, we started brightly and Gilly’s introduction brought a spate of good link up play down the right with some good crosses coming in from the Gillster. The game was however was one to forget for scoring chances. Gav and the machine were particularly profligate. With 10 to go we let Hunton Bridge have two fabulous efforts on goal. These were certainties………if it wasn’t for the safe hands of our fabulous goalkeeper Tom. Not involved for 80 minutes, this match saving contribution underlines the absolutely superb work that he has done between the sticks this year. We all owe you for this Tom.

The game ended with the most unsavory of altercations. We are not a team that balls out our own players. People have bad games, this is a given. We have all had them. Today was not one of them. Hugely frustrating yes; but full of genuine effort and commitment. The chances when they fell didn’t come off and you know what – Shit Happens!

Perhaps I should not have reacted. I didn’t take well to all of us being mugged off as “crap” “shit” “semi final my boll***s” “useless w***ers”. I should have kept my trap shut but didn’t and for this you all have my sincere apology. I am unable to accept that any player for Potten End can abuse players in such an outspoken way: Rude, inaccurate, violent and abusive.

I offer you my resignation because of this and hope that you can forgive me. I do not want to leave a team that I have spent 20 odd years playing for, so I ask for your support but accept that you may wish to move on.

Up the Rotten.

Always,

Gav
