Preston Manor Royals travelled to Huggetts Lane Recreation Ground on 17 October 2026 for their league away fixture against Willingdon Athletic First, kicking off at 2:00pm. The match ended in a 1-1 stalemate after 90 minutes of competitive football overseen by referee Brendan Field.
Preston Manor Royals lined up in a 4-1-2-3 formation, deploying Freddie Sellers in goal. The defensive line consisted of Sam Copeland at right back, Albert Collings and Adam Arnold as central defenders, and Gillan Williams on the left. Dominic Hewitt operated as the holding central midfielder, shielding the defence and linking play. Ahead of him, Harvey Cagney took up the right attacking midfield role, with Valery Jingwa on the left attacking midfield. The front three featured Gary Valaydon on the right wing, Jack Trotter leading the line as striker, and Tipu Miah on the left forward position. The substitutes available were Ben Weller, Luke Hendy, Tyler Banting, and Steven Anjorin.
From the outset, Preston Manor Royals showed intent, with goalkeeper Freddie Sellers making an early catch in the fourth minute to quell a threat. Just four minutes later, left back Gillan Williams demonstrated defensive alertness by clearing a dangerous chance, while Sellers again secured a cross with a confident catch. The Royals’ attacking efforts began to build, with Jack Trotter twice testing the opposition goalkeeper in the 14th minute, though both attempts were saved.
Shortly after, an offside flag wrongly halted a promising move involving right back Sam Copeland in the 15th minute, much to the frustration of the visitors. Gary Valaydon then tried his luck from the right forward position but sent his effort wide in the 17th minute. Sellers remained vigilant, catching another cross in the 19th minute to keep the scoreline level.
The breakthrough came in the 22nd minute when Valery Jingwa struck from outside the box with his right foot, following a neat short pass from Gillan Williams. This goal rewarded the Royals’ early pressure and gave them a deserved lead. Jack Trotter had another attempt just before half-time but sent his shot high over the bar as the teams went into the break with Preston Manor Royals ahead.
At half-time, an enforced substitution saw Ben Weller replace the injured Gary Valaydon. However, the second half began with Willingdon Athletic First responding swiftly, equalising in the 48th minute with a left-footed finish from inside the box. Preston Manor Royals pushed forward in search of a winner, with Valery Jingwa firing wide in the 50th minute and then having a shot saved seven minutes later.
The match grew more physical, with Gillan Williams receiving a yellow card for unsporting behaviour in the 55th minute. Dominic Hewitt’s effort from distance went high in the 62nd minute as the Royals continued to probe. A triple substitution was made on the hour mark, with Luke Hendy replacing Williams, Tyler Banting coming on for Weller, and Steven Anjorin entering for Jack Trotter.
Albert Collings had a chance at 74 minutes but sent his shot wide, while Steven Anjorin was caught offside in the 80th minute due to poor concentration, a correct call by the officials. Jack Trotter was reintroduced in the 83rd minute, replacing Tipu Miah to bolster the attack. In the final moments, Tyler Banting’s attempt went wide as the Royals searched desperately for a late winner.
Despite their efforts, Preston Manor Royals had to settle for a point on the road, with the match finishing 1-1. Both sides shared honours in a tightly contested encounter that showcased solid defensive work and moments of attacking promise from the Royals.
