Home league match played on 15 July 2019.
Kicked off at 7:00 PM

As Nelly once sang it’s getting hot in here, so take off all your clothes…

There was no nudity on show though, thank god! Although Beardall has lost weight and is looking good for it.

Normally at pitch level it is a bit nippy, but not at 7pm last evening… Temperatures soared! And the advantage to The Revs was they had one substitute at least. All the team had to do was play football and wear the opposition out. We all know that Athletico Parsnips, even though been the older statesmen of the division, never give up.

So the first half was a lot of hard work but no end product. Things weren’t quite clicking even though The Revs had the lion’s share of possession. Myers was having one of his quieter games as Phil Pinkstone and Jamie Allen controlled things from the back with relative ease.

Going forward there was some lovely touches or moments but far too many rushed shots meant the opposition keeper was never really tested either.

0-0 at half time and it felt like one of those games where it would be decided by the one goal – a case of who blinks next.

The Revs upped it a gear in the second half, determined to claim those three points. The passing and movement seemed so much crisper and it wasn’t long before the breakthrough came. Allen spotting the run of Evans and playing in a simply magnificent ball that bypassed the entire opposition. All it needed was one touch and then Evans could sweep home.

The game opened up a bit more now as the opposition went looking for an equaliser and started leaving gaps at the back. A bit more composure in front of goal and The Revs could have easily extended their lead. Both the Pinkstone brothers having prime opportunities and Beardall crashing a shot against the post.

Eventually the second goal came – a real deal breaker. Tyman once again showing real guile in front of goal after Dave P clipped a ball through for Tyman to race onto, round the keeper and slot home.

The opposition started to look desperate now and lofted long balls up front in the hope of something, anything, coming off. Phil Pinkstone gave them a glimmer of hope though when he dived in to block a shot. Now in any other walk of life this would have been a superb block tackle, but unfortunately 6aside has a silly rule of no slide tackles and so a penalty was awarded.

Up stepped the old boy of the opposition and he drilled it down the middle allowing Myers to get fingertips to and tip it over the bar. I do believe that is twice over recent seasons Myers has saved Pinkstone’s blushes…

Back up the other end there were a few late chances, Evans clipping a back heel into the side netting and Dave P put through but not quite getting the ball out from under him. Allen once again playing puppet master and controlling things from the back, playing some delightful through balls and a constant support down the flanks.

The heat was also a concern at times, especially for the Pinkstone brothers. Phil berating the ref because the ref gave a kick in when Phil states it was well in the field of play. I mean why else would he bust a gut for it eh?? This little decision seemed to really get under Phil’s skin. I think he needed a Krombacher!

Meanwhile Dave P was giving the opposition a helping hand by tackling himself in midfield whilst the opposition went on the attack. It momentarily stunned the opposition to see Dave P flop to the floor, but when it looked like he was just having a lie down they proceeded with their attack.

The final whistle blew and sweaty brows rejoiced at yet another win, a valuable 3 points taken in a hard fought game. It keeps the pressure up at the top end of the table with a hard 3 weeks coming up against the rest of the top 4.

The Revs are feeling in confident mood though. The feeling is it’s our time! RTID!
