Home league match played on 13 September 2014.
Kicked off at 2:00 PM

A second half strike from Jason Pritchard gave Sinclair United their first win of the season as they edged out Chesterton 3-2 at Hanwell Fields.

United were made to work hard for the win however, having surrended a two-goal lead within a matter of minutes and needing to defend stubbornly to the final whistle.

There were two changes to the starting line-up that narrowly lost to Finmere last week, with Ian Timms replacing Luke Butterworth in centre midfield and Luke Whitehead replacing the injured Matt Jeffs at left back.

Karl Woodcock gave the home side the perfect start with barely a few minutes on the clock. After good work outside the box, he then had all the time in the world to pick his spot and cooly slot the ball past the keeper to put United in front.

They kept pressing ahead to double their lead, and nearly did when Timms put Pritchard through on the right side. But his cross shot beat the keeper but couldn't reach either Woodcock or Josh Nash in the middle.

But their hard work paid off when Ian Timms doubled United's lead. After some build-up play at the back with Luke Jarvis, Luke Whitehead lofted an excellent angled ball to the midfielder who rose highest to guide a superb header over the keeper and in off the underside of the crossbar.

From then on it should have been a question of how many goals for United, but Chesterton managed to score one of their own through their lone striker. His combination of power and strength saw him evade the pressing of United's defence. and his fierce shot beat Stuart Ciballi at his near post.

And it was soon to be all square when a ball over the top of United's defence released Chesterton's striker again and despite Ciballi rushing out to close him down, he cooly lofted the ball over the onrushing keeper and despite a last ditch attempt by Jarvis, the ball ended up in the back of the net.

It would have been easy for United to crumble having seen their two-goal advantage cut out, but their first half display was definately positive going into the second half.

United began to use the pace of Ben Washington and Pritchard on the wings to feed dangerous crosses into Nash and Woodcock in the box and the midfield pairing of Timms and Ben Riley continued to have an impact on United's attacks.

And it was midway through the second half when United restored their lead in the 65th minute. A free kick on the edge of the box saw Luke Whitehead hit a fierce drive towards the keeper, and when he fumbled the ball Pritchard was quickest to react and gratefully put the ball in the back of net.

It was the least United deserved for their second half display, showing more determination to work their way into the box and find ways of adding to their tally. United's defence were also holding firm, with Adam Timms virtually dominant in the air against the Chesterton strike force.

It needed all of United's grit and resolve to keep their slender lead in tact and Chesterton nearly drew level when a header from the corner looked destined for the back of the net, only for Pritchard to stick to his goal line duties and head the ball off the line.

United restricted Chesterton to half chances and long shots towards the end, and substitute David Wiles provided much needed energy in the middle when legs began to tire. There were still chances for the home side to put the result beyond doubt but the final ball was either too heavy or intercepted by the Chesterton defence.

The final whistle might have been a relief to United but the result will give manager Steve Nash a great deal of encouragement after seeing his young side dig deep for the win.

It would be fair to say luck hasn't been on United's side for their first two games. But with a bit of momentum United go into their next league match at home to King's Sutton, who they beat 4-1 in pre-season, knowing they have every chance of making it two wins on the bounce.
