Sporting Weston F.C. 4 vs 1 Sporting Weston "Firsts" v

<p> <p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">Sporting Weston avenged last season's cup final defeat against Uphill Castle in style, and became the early pace setters at the top of division one of the district league after a fine 4-1 win. <p> <p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"> <p> <p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">Losing experienced defensive stalwart Chris Disney to a groin injury in the first 5 minutes was a blow for the home team, and the visitors sensed they could take advantage of Sporting's enforced defensive reshuffle and pressed for an early lead. But any advances were thwarted by excellent goal keeping by Sam Cooper and the resistance of Sporting's back four of Gary Booth, Dan Swire, Ash Manning and Geo Christie. <p> <p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"> <p> <p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">Sporting soon found their feet midway through the half and their midfield trio of Phil Hewitt, Sam Nicholas and Jason Young began to dominate proceedings. It was Young who opened the scoring; finding the net direct from a corner kick. Young was also involved in the second soon after with a glorious through ball that split the opposition back three, finding the prolific Luke Kershaw who despatched the home sides second. <p> <p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"> <p> <p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">Soon after the break it was three after Kershaw's hard work in the box allowed winger Adam Larson to prod home to score his first goal for Sporting against his former club, and sparked wild celebrations from the player who was relieved to have finally broken his duck. To their credit; Uphill would not back down despite being behind and were rewarded with a well worked goal to get themselves back into the game. But the day was Sporting's when substitute Grant Morris rounded off the scoring with a trademark low drive with only his third touch of the ball after coming on. <p> <p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"> <p> <p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">Sporting Weston FC would like to thank their Sponsors Butcombe Brewery for providing the new kit for the 2016/17 season.
