St. Leonard's Social II 4 vs 3 Northiam 75 Reserves

Social sealed their first victory of the season after a sensational 45 yard free kick strike from the returning Carlton Phillips in the dying embers of the game gave them an amazing 4-3 win.

Social fell behind early in the first half but rallied back through goals from Owen Westbrook and Mark Larkin. However two scrappy late first half goals from Northiam sent them into the break with a 3-2 lead.

A couple of tweaks to the formation from Social gave them a more balanced look and they levelled the scores after a beautiful passing move involving the whole team gave debutant Jak Laidlaw the opportunity to brilliantly finish from 6 yards.

The back line of Martin Hill, Westbrook, Marlon Gillett and man of the match JJ Blanche were expertly marshalling the Northiam attackers and then, with only 1 minute on the clock, Kenny McNaughton was fouled just outside the centre circle and the imperious Carlton ‘Sus’ Phillips decided to shoot from the resulting free kick and scored an early contender for goal of the season to secure the points.
