MATCH REPORT for SUNDAY 6th May 2012

Crayford One Bell    0                       St Michaels F C    4

St Michaels resumed their League campagne against a Crayford One Bell team who are anchored at the bottom of the Division. Whilst on the face of it any easy game St Michaels had to be wary of being too complacent especially in light of the majority of the team being out the night before celebrating Anthony Baptiste’s wedding.

This was not to be the case and after only 3 minutes the One Bell keeper pulled off a fine save which was to be the first of many excellent saves to keep One Bell in the game. After 11 minutes a corner  from Danny Baptiste was headed into his own net by the One Bell Centre Back. This piece of good fortune settled the early nerves and St Michaels started to play good passing football and eleven minutes later they almost increased their lead but Ronnie Mewes missed an open goal from close in.

After 35 minutes Ronnie Mewes made amends for his earlier miss when he scored from close range after an assist by Danny Baptiste to make the score at Half Time 0-2.

The 2nd half started as had the 1st with St Michaels on the attack and it was after only 2 minutes when a shot from Arran Amer hit the keeper and was put away by Aaron Hughes to increase St Michael’s lead to 0-3. St Michaels continued to play good tight passing football without any reward and it was after 65 minutes when Harry Graham was brought into action to make a fine save on one of One Bell’s rare attacks.

3 minutes later St Michaels almost increased their lead when a fierce long range shot from Arran Amer was well saved by the keeper. St Michaels continued to dominate and with 10 minutes to go another Danny Baptiste assist gave Ronnie Mewes the chance to score from close in which he duly did to make the final score 0-4.

Whist a win against the bottom team was expected the whole of the team played very well and but for the One Bell’s keeper making a string of fine saves the score could have been in double figures. This win takes St Michaels to the top of the league with only 2 double headers left to play.

Special mentions this week go to Danny Baptiste with 3 assists and possibly his best performance of the season, Aaron Hughes with his almost expected skilful performance in midfield, James Mckerrel and Danny Regan for solid performances at full back. Man of the Match however goes to Arran Amer with a tireless stint as the holding man in midfield.
