KINGSHURST SPORTING CLUB v STARLANDS (A) 5-0 21/01/2012

Starlands played Kingshurst Sporting Club at The Pavillions on Saturday.

Allegedly the better of the two Kingshurst Teams - based on League position.

The girls were down to the bare bones again - with only 7 players.

Conditions were windy and the pitch a little heavy - but after a weeks break due to icey pitches, the girls were keen to get stuck into the action.

To be fair, Kingshurst should have gone 2 up after minutes due to Starlands usual lapse in concentration from the kick off. However, Holly was starting where she left off against Solihull and stopped both chances.

Starlands started to get into the game, but never looked like threatening the Kingshurst goal. Yet, were defending as a team - and proving hard to break down.

However, Georgia went down injured - and play stopped for a few minutes whilst she was taken off. She was unfit to carry on in the short term - and Starlands were down to 6 players.

Kingshurst inevitably took advantage and scored two quick goals in Georgia's absence. At times Starlands were playing as though they were down to 5 out field players. For some reason their little terrier 'Martha' who strikes fear into the opposition with her sliding tackles did not appear to be on her game. She was out of sorts. This meant the other girls had to work that extra bit harder - but also left them exposed to Kingshurst ability to switch play from one side of the pitch to the other.

Georgia bravely came back onto the pitch and for a short while - Starlands stopped Kingshurst. But as the half time whistle went they fell behind to another goal. 3-0 at half time.

Starlands gave their usual 100% effort for the main , but as time went on , were miss kicking the ball and failing to close the opposition down and get stuck into the tackles.

Sinead and Loris were immense in their defensive display. Hannah & Samantha were trying their hardest to offer support in defence and also try and push on in attack - but to no avail.

Holly - was making some great saves even saving a back header goal bound from Martha..phew! ,but Kingshurst  soon scored a 4th goal - Their No.9 had bagged a HAT-TRICK! and an onlooking parent was reminded he owed his daughter a £5 bonus payment !

Starlands could do nothing to threaten the Kingshurst goal - apart from a long range effort from goalkeeper Holly's clearance kick! which bounced agonisingly wide - and a poor clearance from the Kingshurst goalkeeper, which Georgia instinctively struck towards goal but was cleared.

The end score was 5-0 to the home side. For the first time spectators were deflated - The girls just did not seem to be at the races!...All the shooting practice at training never came into play...Hopefully the girls will rest up and get back to their workman like grafting.

We may not be the most skillful, we may not score lots of goals - BUT, we DO GIVE 100% and we NEVER give up! and we DO enjoy ourselves! and we ARE improving!

Look out Kingshurst Diamonds! We're out for revenge!
