Sunshine FC hosted Atayese 1 Football Club at Oke-Afa Government School on 7 March 2026, with kick-off at 4:00pm in a 70-minute friendly encounter. The match ended in a 2-0 defeat for Sunshine FC, who struggled to break down their visitors throughout the contest.
Sunshine FC lined up in a 4-1-2-3 formation, deploying R. Rokeeb in goal behind a back four of Adedamola Basit at right back, Adegoke Ibrahim and Barqus Kola as central defenders, and M. Marvelous on the left. Lasisi Babatunde operated as the lone holding midfielder, shielding the defence. Ahead of him, Arowosegbe Henry took up the right attacking midfield role, with Achie Destiny on the left. The front three consisted of Achie David on the right wing, P2 P2 leading the line as striker, and Peculiar P on the left forward position. The substitutes named were Segun Quadri and Nwana Chidindu.
The first half saw a cagey affair with both sides probing cautiously, but neither could find a breakthrough before the interval at 35 minutes. Sunshine FC’s shape suggested an intent to control midfield through Babatunde, with Henry and Destiny expected to supply the front three, while the full-backs Basit and Marvelous were tasked with providing width and defensive solidity.
Early into the second half, tactical changes began to unfold. At 53 minutes, Achie David was withdrawn for Segun Quadri in a bid to inject fresh impetus on the right flank. However, almost immediately after this substitution, Atayese 1 Football Club capitalised on a defensive error from Sunshine FC to open the scoring. The visitors’ goal came courtesy of a mistake at the back, exposing the home side’s vulnerability under pressure.
Sunshine FC attempted to respond but were dealt another blow at 65 minutes when central defender Barqus Kola was forced off due to injury, replaced by Nwana Chidindu. This disruption further unsettled the home defence, making it difficult for Sunshine FC to regain composure.
Despite efforts to rally, Sunshine FC were unable to find a way past the opposition goalkeeper, and Atayese 1 Football Club doubled their advantage before the final whistle. The visitors’ clinical finishing and exploitation of defensive lapses proved decisive in this friendly encounter.
Sunshine FC will look to regroup and address their defensive frailties ahead of their next fixture, while Atayese 1 Football Club will take confidence from their efficient display on the road.
