Away league match played on 04 October 2009.
Kicked off at 10:30 AM

This was a great first win of the season for the Lions. Best performance of the season yet, 5 goals and a clean sheet, marks a impressive turnaround from our first game. Brett scooped the goal scoring honours with 4 to his name with Lee getting the last. Although Chilworth were bottom coming into this game, they could definitely play football and it is to the Lion’s credit that they had few efforts on goal especially in the second half.

We dominated the first half and had some early shots from Mike G. However, it was Rangers who had the first serious effort from a free kick on the left, that was headed down into Dave’s arms. We continued to have the better of the game and although they threatened with some good passing moves, we defended well. Our first goal came from a defensive clearance which then saw the ball worked right to left, ending with a fine ball by Mike G to Brett on the right hand edge of the box. Brett drove a low strike off the left post and in. Brett added a second after a ball by Lee found him right next to the keeper in the area. The keeper grabbed his ankle before thinking better of it (keeper fouling Brett? There’s a change…) and Brett got his traditional one yard tap in.

Gary(?) had a free kick that was headed off the line, they went close with a header that came off the bar as they got more into the game in the last 10 minutes of the half. Dave had a bit of moment towards the end where the ball ran loose in the face of oncoming attackers but we got the ball away ok and we went in 2-0 up. We started the second half as we started the first and had a penalty after the referee called a handball on one of their players. Brett duly stepped up to see the ball in for his hat-trick. Brett got another one after some good work by Lee again and Lee got one himself with a header from Darren’s free kick on the right. JP had a couple of shots from distance, one which was Row Z, the other which smashed against the bottom of the post. They had a header of the bar from a guy the size of the Eiffel Tower. The game got a bit scrappy towards the end and they pretty much started kicking lumps out of us, but they had very little sight of goal and we thoroughly deserved both the win and the clean sheet. Good follow up to last week, now to keep it going.
