Tilehurst YM hit 7 in a league game for the first time since 1958 and no-one was more delighted than stakwart defender Mike Shanks who missed that game through injury.

This made it 8 straight wins for YM in a season where they were hotly tipped by one-time Reading Post sports reporter Thom Drake, who now works in the 'puts the property paper in the freebie midweek post' department on Cremyl Road, to finish BOTTOM.

TYM started brightly, creating chances for Richard Godfrey and Michael Buck in the first 15 minutes. The game was quite even and Diamond Black's midfield initially started to take control of the game without creating many chances.

YM took the lead in the 23rd minute and started to dominate the game.  After a maisy run down the left hand side by Matt Gill, the ball found it's way to Joe Edwards in the Diamond Black (DB) area who blundered his way forward where he slotted the ball home past the stranded keeper.  The ref had seen an earlier infringement however and had already awarded YM the penalty.

Up stepped Mark Harding to slot home for 1-0.

DB did have their moments attacking and they were awarded a free kick on the half hour mark.  A long range strike took a deflection and rebounded off the cross bar and the DB lad followed up to make it 1-1.

This really sparked YM in to life and they regained the lead their passing/possession game deserved 10 minutes before half time.  A delicate through ball by Mark Harding put Richard Godfrey through on the DB keeper and he made no mistake from 10 yards.

Godfrey and Buck were dominating the back 4 and YM caused problems throughout the game from then on.

At the start of the second half, YM Manger Clive Butler replaced Joe Edwards with Aaron Parfitt, who imediately started to run the show.

And it was him who extended YM's lead with a good strike from 20 yards, low to the keeper's right and in to the bottom corner for 3-1.

Richard Godfrey showed he was in a confident mood as he tried and audacious bicycle kick which was heading for the top corner but was comfortably saved.

Parfitt extended YM's lead to 4-1 when the ball broke for him in the DB area and he made no mistake from 12 yards on the hour mark.

Moments later he had his hat-trick.  A mix up by the DB defence saw the ball break to Michael Buck and he laid it off to Parfitt for him to lob home from 25 yards.

Aaron Parfitt then became provider as he slid two through balls through to Godfrey for him to finish coolly both times to complete his hat-trick and score YM's 6th and 7th goals.

YM had further chances to extend their lead through Buck, Jake Atkinson and most notably James Williams, who chose to lie on the ball practising press ups rather than beating the keeper.

Buck had a further effor ruled out as the ref didn't see the ball had clearly crossed the line before DB got a late consolation goal.

YM saw the game out and finished up 7-2 winners.
