Home league match played on 17 March 2013.
Kicked off at 10:45 AM

The UNITS entertained Chainwire back in league action on a fresh morning at Brown Westhead alas again we were moved off our usual pitch due to Franche playing at home
Cuzer found himself with quite a few absentees today due to numerous reasons and had 15 at his disposal as we lined up
Mala, Eggy, Taylor, Barney, Gilo, Newton, Coco, Ashton, Si Hollick, Trigger & Pountney
Subs were Stefan, Ross, Kieron and Radman

The UNITS had comfortable beaten Chainwire already twice this year but with them fresh from a home win last week and with a squad of 17 at their disposal today Cuzer was quick to remind the lads not to be complacent and to be on their game
To be fair we started well and almost scored in the first minute, a quick ball into Pountney who in turn released Trigger got him away from his marker before he fired inches wide from 20 yards in a slick attacking move
The UNITS were moving the ball around nicely and we took the lead on only 7 minutes when Eggy did well winning a 50-50 on the half way line and played the ball down the line for Trigger, he played a one two with Ashton before getting to the byeline and crossing low for the on-rushing Pountney to steer home from 6 yards out, 1-0
We were well on top and on 15 minutes it was 2-0 when Coco whipped in a delightful corner, Taylor had already forced the Chainwire keeper into a good save minutes earlier from a corner, this time he headed towards the back stick where Ashton prodded over the line from a few yards out despite the best efforts of the Chainwire defender

On 20 minutes Mala was called into duty for the first time with the big Chainwire target man finding a yard of space 20 yards out and his dipping shot was superbly tipped over by Mala at full stretch

On 30 minutes it was 3-0 when from a free kick 30 yards out Pountney whipped in a delightful ball and Trigger ran onto it to volley home from 8 yards out
It was a thoroughly professional performance from the UNITS and in injury time at the end of the first half some excellent play by Mala, Taylor and Barney stopped Chainwire forcing the ball home from a corner as we preserved our 3 goal lead coming into half time

HT UNITS 3 v 0 Chainwire

Cuzer was full of compliments for the lads first half performance, the team shape was excellent both with and without the ball, Si Hollick and Ashton had the balance of the midfield down to a tee and the front two were working hard and stretching Chainwire, saying that next goal was crucial and it was important we didn't let a committed Chainwire back into the game

Thankfully Cuzer had nothing to worry about as within 5 minutes it was 4-0, Ashton broke from midfield and managed to force the ball to Coco who drilled home, with the aid of a deflection from 18 yards to put the game beyond doubt

Shortly after Stef came on for Barney in a like for like swap, again Barney putting in a solid performance since his return from fruit picking down under!

As expected the UNITS had a bit of a slump in the performance levels and Chainwire to their credit kept having a go but the UNITS carried a constant goal threat, Pountney was clean through, rounded the keeper and with the goal gaping under hit his shot and allowed the Chainwire defender to recover and clear off the line

On 60 minutes Ross replaced Newt's and he should have scored within 5 minutes when from a lovely team move Coco whipped in a great cross which Ross tried to volley home when a header may have been a better option whilst waiting for the ball it just enabled the Chainwire full back to dive in and head the ball behind for a corner, great piece of defending to be fair

On 70 minutes Kieron replaced Eggy who had again had a good solid game at full back

On 75 minutes the UNITS made it 5-0 when Ashton did superbly well to break from midfield and carry the ball forward, he played a nice reverse ball to Trigger who sidefooted under the keeper from 18 yards to notch his second

However the UNITS wish of a clean sheet was denied with 10 minutes left when their striker got the better of Stef to a ball over the top and poked the ball past Mala from 18 yards out

Deep into injury time the UNITS were awarded a penalty when the Chainwire keeper kicked out at Taylor off the ball after a corner, the Chainwire keeper receiving a red card for his moment of madness
The lads let Trigger step up to hopefully secure his hat trick only for the Chainwire stand in keeper to dive to his left and parry the spot kickl away, Trigger putting the rebound inches wide just as the full time whistle sounded

In the end an excellent win for the UNITS against a spirited Chainwire side who never stopped competing

Taylor & Ashton were superb today but MOM just goes to Trigger who notched two on his first 90 minutes and really should have had a hat trick but his work rate was superb all game so he gets the nod
