Yes boys,
Really proud of the performance for a very large part of this game, the scoreline flatters them massively in my opinion.
Without a league fixture for 8 weeks, with 11 players, I really thought it was one of our best performances of the season. I want to make sure you all see the positives from this game, regardless the result, if we play like this in the next few weeks we will pick up wins.
Preparation for the game was not its most ideal, but it happens and you all dealt with it. Out of possession we discussed the plan to deal with there shape. For 60 minutes I thought we done this brilliantly. It’s something new for us not being as aggressive, it might feel like more concentration or even test your patience for some of you in comparison. Part of football is having the ability to take on information and adapt when necessary. If we want to get results we need to perform at this level for the remainder of the season.
Throughout the game we prevented them playing through the lines, Ibs, Max + Darcy you were terrific and simply covered enormous amounts of ground to make sure of this. At times they ran out of ideas which speaks volumes on our part. In possession you also affected the game really positively, Ibs well deserved goal with a late run into the box. What I enjoyed more was Micah playing forward early + Maksym dispersing to get some width when we had just won the ball. A huge point for us going forward boys. Turnovers in possession is hard work especially if you don’t read the game, to be really compact as a team can makes you narrow if you are a couple steps behind play, we must continue our principles in possession and attempt to stretch the opposition and get in behind. The same applies to our two 8s, get as high as possible and close to the CF as we can to combine in the final 1/3 when we have the ball, immediate recoveries into shape when we lose the ball.
As mentioned previously our back lines decision making was excellent for 60 minutes, boys I can’t stress the difference from you boys playing forward into the CF + WPs in behind EARLY. We spent long spells of the game in there half in both halves. We caused them problems + it was refreshing to see our chance creation as high as it was from it. We will continue to work this week on set pieces/delivering earlier crosses with some quality when we find ourselves in the final 1/3.
This game got away from us in the last 1/4 of the game, I accept some tired legs, but these are the finer details that get punished at this level especially!
We have a fantastic opportunity in the next few weeks to put some points on the board, it will require a regroup and belief from all you to keep working hard. Which you have continued so far.
Look forward to seeing you back in Thursday, please send over your post game questionnaires as soon as possible.
Enjoy your weeks!
