Wedgwood FC travelled to Keele University Sports Centre on 11 October 2026 for a 10:30am kick-off in a pulsating league away fixture against RB Silverdale. The match ended in a dramatic 4-4 draw after 90 minutes of high-octane football, with both sides exchanging blows in a game packed with goals and tactical twists.

Wedgwood lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, deploying Alfie Ridgway in goal. The back four consisted of Tom Birks at right back, Jordan Coleman and Cam Gardiner as central defenders, and Brendon Whitfield on the left. In midfield, Callum George and Brandyn Williams operated as the two central midfielders tasked with both defensive duties and linking play. Ahead of them, the attacking trio featured Jake Hart on the right wing, Sam Di Marco centrally as the attacking midfielder, and Brad Lewis on the left. Leading the line was striker Josef Capewell, expected to spearhead the attack and finish chances created by the wide and central players. Wedgwood’s substitutes were Kieren Forrester, Shane Reaney, Owen Taylor, and Tom Raketic, all poised to influence the game as it unfolded.

The game burst into life immediately as Brandyn Williams fired a spectacular screamer into the net from a corner delivered by Brad Lewis in the opening minute, giving Wedgwood a dream start. Just two minutes later, Brendon Whitfield showcased his defensive prowess with a crucial tackle to halt an early RB Silverdale attack. Brad Lewis continued to impress with a long key pass in the 10th minute that carved open a chance, signalling his creative influence on the left flank.

At 14 minutes, Callum George made a vital tackle to prevent a clear opportunity for the hosts, but his afternoon was cut short two minutes later when he was forced off injured, replaced by Kieren Forrester. The game’s momentum shifted dramatically in the 18th minute when RB Silverdale equalised through an own goal, levelling the scores. Wedgwood’s Cam Gardiner tested the opposition goalkeeper with a shot saved at 25 minutes, showing intent to regain the lead.

However, RB Silverdale struck again in the 34th minute to take the lead, prompting Wedgwood to make a tactical substitution, bringing on Shane Reaney for Jake Hart. Gardiner’s efforts continued with another saved attempt at 40 minutes, but the visitors were hit by a flurry of goals as RB Silverdale scored twice more before half-time, at 40 and 44 minutes respectively, stretching their advantage to 4-1.

With the first half drawing to a close, Wedgwood made another tactical change, replacing Brendon Whitfield with Owen Taylor at the 45th minute mark. The teams went into the break with RB Silverdale firmly in control.

Wedgwood responded immediately after the interval by substituting striker Josef Capewell for Tom Raketic, signalling a shift in attacking strategy. Brad Lewis wasted no time in testing the keeper with a wide shot in the 47th minute. Alfie Ridgway was called into action at 54 minutes, tipping a dangerous effort over the bar to keep Wedgwood in the contest.

In the 71st minute, Wedgwood made a further tactical switch, bringing back Josef Capewell for Jordan Coleman in defence, perhaps to add more firepower upfront. The visitors then mounted a remarkable comeback, with Brad Lewis converting a penalty in the 73rd minute to halve the deficit. Four minutes later, Lewis struck again, this time finishing a short pass from Tom Raketic to bring the scores level at 4-4.

The momentum swung fully in Wedgwood’s favour as Tom Birks unleashed a stunning screamer from the right back position in the 80th minute, Despite several attempts to extend the advantage, including wide efforts from Capewell at 82 and 94 minutes and saved shots by Shane Reaney and Tom Raketic in the mid-80s, Wedgwood could not add to their tally.

The match ended in a thrilling 4-4 draw, a testament to the resilience and attacking quality shown by both sides. Brad Lewis was deservedly named player of the match for his pivotal role in Wedgwood’s fightback, contributing two goals and an assist in a performance full of creativity and determination.
