Home league match played on 16 November 2013.
Kicked off at 2:00 PM

Newcastle Uni inflicted our second 2-0 home defeat in a row as two early goals were enough to keep us rooted to the bottom of the Division 1 table on another frustrating day at the barking dog.

The saints made one change as Pughie came in to replace YT who dropped to the bench as the 5-3-2 formation was in use again and the game kicked off in cold but sunny conditions with the morgue shooting towards the car park end. Just like last week the saints started poor and after gibba needlessly gave away a free kick Uni number 7 Jess Walkin curled home a quality free kick from 20 yards giving carl maguire no chance. Minutes later Carl was quick off his line to save bravely at the uni strikers feet taking a painful whack in his nether regions.

The saints first effort at goal saw a henda shot from 25 yards parried by the keeper who was up quick to regrab the ball before pughie could pounce on it while a couple of corners were well dealt with by the uni keeper who came and collected them among a crowd of people. The uni went 2-0 up after an uncharacteristic mistake from kingy who lost the ball when last man and uni forward Tom Wilcox raced onto the ball to fire low under Carls dive to double the lead for the visitors.

The saints lacked width with both wingbacks stuck defending too much as the uni looked for further goals while the front two of pugh and bruce were being starved of any service but when they got the chance to link up Pughie nearly fashioned a shooting oppurtunity the uni defence were there to deny him and the teams went into halftime with the score still 2-0.

The morgue improved at the start of the second half and began to get a foot hold in the game with henda and fez getting into the game a lot more and some good work from brucey to win a corner when it looked like the ball would go out summed up the saints start to the second half. That was to be bruceys last involvment as YT came on to replace him and not long after Grant replaced Pughie. The uni nearly grabbed a third from a long range strike but Carl superbly tipped it round the post to the joy of the referee who applauded the great save.

With 10 minutes to go Grant found himself with the best chance of the game one on one with keeper on his left foot he opted to lob the keeper rather than smash it and the keeper saved it to keep the Quay blank on the scoresheet for the second week in a row, the last 5 minutes the uni could of had 2 more firing just over with a decent volley from  their captain then a tremendous tackle from gibba and an equally good one from Dale stopped Tom Wilcox from grabbing his second.

Final score Saints 0 Newc Uni 2

Slight improvement from last week but no doubt that the best team won the uni will go on to finish in the top 8 while we must get a win soon or we will be cut adrift at the foot of the table hopefully kanes return from suspension next week will see us back among the goals.

The Uni poured back to the club in great numbers and found Donna's chilli rice and garlic bread to their liking leaving nothing left for the lads which they didnt find amusing the letter draw was then won by a record 6 people who won a tenner each.
