The Division Two Cup final took place this morning with Witham Galacticos taking on Terling Villa in a repeat of the Malcolm Foy Trophy Final played 3 weeks ago.

Witham Galacticos started the game well and Marti Cullum nearly opened the scoring but his long range effort dipped just over the bar, a good jinking run by Ryan McCormack unfortunately came to nothing, Villa came in to the game as the half wore on, a great cross by Adam Samuels was headed over and then Scott Collins forced a good save from Cannock in the Galacticos goal, at the other end, right on half time a miss kick by Tristan Woolfenden nearly gifted Galacticos the lead but the ball hit the post and went for a corner.

Half-time: Terling Villa 0 Witham Galacticos 0

Galacticos had the first opportunity of the second half when Kane Orr flicked the ball on for Marti Cullum whose shot was superbly saved by Gavin Woolfenden, minutes later Terling nearly put through their own net when a miss kick by defender Darren Douglas came off his own cross bar. On 56 minutes Galacticos nearly took the lead when Kane Orr got clear and lobbed the ball over Woolfenden but the ball came back of the post to safety, Galacticos continued to press Jamie Lawes’ good effort went wide on the hour mark and then Kane Orr’s shot on the turn landed on the roof of the net.

Full-Time: Terling Villa 0 Witham Galacticos 0

Extra-time:

Despite all of Galacticos endeavour it was Terling who went in front as the first period drew to a close when Tristan Woolfenden netted from the penalty spot and then he doubled the advantage in the second period to give Terling their second cup final win of the season.

Final Score: Terling Villa 2 Witham Galacticos 0

A tremedous performance from us boys and it was very difficult being on the wrongside of the result after dominating for most periods of the game. To play that well and show such strong spirit with all the injuries and suspensions we have is a huge credit to you all. Last game of the season next week to clinch runners up spot
