Home league match played on 18 January 2009.
Kicked off at 10:30 AM

TICKLED PINK

After last weeks showing the manager demanded a performance and how the players delivered. West Park was its’ usual self and proved heavy going, however the home side made light work of the opposition and were never troubled in this one sided encounter.

The pack was shuffled to accommodate Costello and debutant Chafer. Cook unavailable for this match, was replaced by James O’Donnell, with brother Will partnering Costello. Taylor picked up on the right wing where he left off last week and was thankfully able to manage the full 90 minutes. It was this player who put the Woodlands in command early on with a quick fire double. This lead was added to by Maundrill, who would go on to score four in total for the team in pink. His link up play with Chafer and Chappell in midfield was as far removed from last weeks performance as it is possible to get whilst still playing the same sport. Another to respond to last weeks defeat was Collins, who’s tigerish tackling meant the away team had little or no chance to get any foothold in the game.

Cannon continued his impressive recent form at left back as did Bottomley on the right. Both players emerging from last week with credit for their performances, which they were able to carry into this game. Chappell’s inclusion on the left provided balance which, in recent times, has been lacking. He would also go on to score another memorable goal, which gives him one of the best goals per game ratio in the division, from midfield.

The move of the match involved five players but was started by Costello. He beat three players deep in his own half before feeding Butler. He drove forward and played Chappell in to find Maundrill with a superb reverse pass. Maundrill beat his man to the by-line and pulled the ball back for Chafer to score a wonderful debut goal.

By half time the game was over as a contest. With the home side having rattled seven for no reply, it was only fair that the squad be used to its full extent. Dave O’Donnell replaced Chafer but was soon replaced himself by another debutant Theaker due to injury. Oldridge replaced Bottomley for the last ten minutes.

The travelling side did manage to pull a goal back and it can be said once again, they never stopped running or trying to get something. It was to prove only a consolation as the Woodlands got a much needed boost ahead of their cup exploits in a few weeks time.
