AFC Tarn were formed in 2018 by a group of friends who wanted to play competitive football together. The team started out in the Barnsley & District Sunday League Division One and won promotion to the Premier Division in their first season.
AFC Tarn have been a regular feature in the Premier Division since then, finishing in the top half of the table in each of the last three seasons. The team's best finish was third place in the 2021-22 season.
