AEK Athens was founded on 13 April 1924 by Greek refugees from Constantinople. The club's first president was Georgios Kalafatis. AEK Athens played its first match on 20 April 1924, a 2-1 win against Ethnikos Asteras.
AEK Athens won its first Greek championship in 1932. The club has since gone on to win 23 more championships, the most recent in 2018. AEK Athens has also won 14 Greek Cups, the most recent in 2019.
