A.S. Viitorul Ocnita was founded in 1997 by a group of local enthusiasts. The club started playing in the Liga 6 Dambovita, the sixth tier of Romanian football. In 2005, the club was promoted to the Liga 5 Nord. The club has been playing in the Liga 5 Nord ever since.
