Birmingham City Football Club is a professional football club based in Birmingham, England. They compete in the EFL Championship, the second tier of English football.
The club was founded in 1875 as Small Heath Alliance, and was renamed Birmingham City in 1945. They have won the League Cup twice, in 1963 and 2011.
Birmingham City's home ground is St. Andrew's, which has a capacity of 29,409.
History
Birmingham City's most successful period was in the 1950s and early 1960s. They won the League Cup in 1963, and reached the FA Cup final in 1956 and 1960.
The club also had a good run in European competition in the 1960s, reaching the semi-finals of the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1960-61.
Birmingham City have also had some notable players in their history, including Trevor Francis, who was the first British player to be bought for £1 million.
Recent seasons
Birmingham City have spent most of the last 20 years in the Championship. They have had a few brief spells in the Premier League, but have never been able to establish themselves in the top flight.
