The Castle have spent two previous season as the 'Red Lion' before switching pub and sponsor. The first season was spent towards the lower end of the table, scrapping for points. After a managerial switch, the second season for the Red Lion was a more successful one. Finishing second in the DSFL division 2 and gaining promotion to the top flight.

Now, a new Pub, a new squad, a new manager, a new division and a new strip. FC Ruthin Castle are ready for the season ahead.

The team was founded in 2014 as the Red Lion. They spent two seasons in the DSFL Division 2, finishing second in their second season to earn promotion to the top flight.

In 2017, the team changed their name to FC Ruthin Castle and their sponsor to the Ruthin Castle Pub. They have since finished in the top half of the table in each of their seasons in the DSFL Division 1.
