Imwange FC was founded in 1980 by a group of local football enthusiasts. The team quickly rose through the ranks of Kenyan football and, in 1998, they were promoted to the Kenyan Premier League for the first time.
The team spent four seasons in the top flight before being relegated in 2002. They have since been playing in the National Super League.
