More about the team

There is a need to provide young people from mainly ethnic minority communities with the opportunity to take a step forward in sporting careers.

Mission
This will be done through providing/delivering sports training programmes with local SFA qualified coaches. We will also provide Facilitated workshops, which will in essence offer the young people a safe environment to explore these issues. The young people will also be offered 1-2-1 mentoring. The management committee and volunteers have a combined experience of 40 years working in this field and have built up expertise and partnerships which inform the services we provide. MYF management committee are well established and respected, with a proven track record for engaging with communities and, in particular, BME young people. We have also through our evaluation processes gained feedback from the young people who access our services. Parents have also been a part of assessing the need. Our partner organisations e.g. SFA, Scottish Amateur Boxing, The Police and Community Safety have also identified the need during planning and strategic discussions. In the areas where we intend to deliver these services there are no similar projects which provide this preventative service for the identified client group.

Description
These needs have been identified through various methods of research i.e focus groups, 1-2-1 interviews with youngsters, questionnaires and meetings with the Scottish Football Association – Bemis – Scottish Amateur Boxing – various Political parties, Strathclyde Police, Peoples Academy and a number of existing youth and charity organisations. A recent regular trend which has also been closely monitored is the boring and nothing productive to do attitude from youngsters on Facebook, resulting in an excessive digital youth lifestyle. Alot of youngsters spend excessive amounts of time communicating online and roaming social media networks
