The club was founded in 1937 and has played in the top flight of Azerbaijani football since its inception in 1992. Neftçi is the most successful club in Azerbaijani football, having won the Azerbaijan Premier League a record 13 times, the Azerbaijan Cup 11 times, and the Azerbaijan Super Cup 10 times.
History
Neftçi was founded in 1937 as Neftyanik Baku. The club played in the Soviet First League from 1940 to 1947, and again from 1950 to 1960. In 1960, Neftçi was promoted to the Soviet Top League, where they played for 10 seasons. The club's best finish in the Soviet Top League was fourth place in 1966.
After the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, Neftçi became one of the founding members of the Azerbaijan Premier League. The club has won the Azerbaijan Premier League a record 13 times, the Azerbaijan Cup 11 times, and the Azerbaijan Super Cup 10 times. Neftçi has also participated in the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League, and the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup.
Stadium
Neftçi plays its home matches at the Tofiq Bahramov Stadium in Baku. The stadium has a capacity of 33,000 spectators.
