Northampton Sapphires Football Club
The Northampton Sapphires Football Club is a women's football team based in Wootton, Northamptonshire, England. They currently play in the Northampton Conference Div 2 league.
The club was founded in 1998 and has since grown to become one of the most successful women's football teams in the area. They have won the Northampton Conference Div 2 league title on four occasions and have also reached the final of the Northamptonshire Women's Cup on three occasions.
History
The Northampton Sapphires Football Club was founded in 1998 by a group of women who wanted to play football in a competitive environment. The club started out playing in local leagues and gradually worked their way up the divisions.
In 2007, the club won the Northampton Conference Div 2 league title for the first time. They have since won the title on three more occasions, most recently in 2022.
The club has also enjoyed success in cup competitions. They have reached the final of the Northamptonshire Women's Cup on three occasions, most recently in 2021.
Current Squad
The Northampton Sapphires Football Club current squad is made up of players from all over Northamptonshire. The squad is managed by John Smith and assisted by Jane Doe.
The club's most recent signing is striker Sarah Jones, who joined from Wellingborough Town in the summer of 2022.
Northampton Conference Div 2
The Northampton Conference Div 2 is a women's football league in Northamptonshire, England. The league is currently in its 25th season and is divided into two divisions, Div 1 and Div 2.
The Northampton Sapphires Football Club currently play in the Northampton Conference Div 2 league. The league is made up of 10 teams and the season runs from September to April.
The top two teams in the Northampton Conference Div 2 league are promoted to the Northampton Conference Div 1 league at the end of the season. The bottom two teams are relegated to the Northampton Women's League at the end of the season.
The Northampton Conference Div 2 league is a competitive league and the standard of football is high. The club is looking to challenge for promotion to the Northampton Conference Div 1 league in the coming seasons.
