More about the team

Oaks Institue Old Boys are currently in the 1st Division of the Liverpool Old Boys League. We used to play at the Jeffrey Humbles Memorial groung, which is in the Aintree area of Liverpool.

Approximately 5 years ago we were affiliated to the Liverpool Zingari League where we had played for many years. Due to dwindling numbers we were struggling to get numbers to put a full team out. As a consequence results were poor which affected confidence which, in turn, made the low numbers dwindle further. To preserve our dignity we moved across to the Liverpool Old Boys league where we began life in the 4th out of 5 divisions. That was 4 years ago. The level of football reduced but we began to attract several new, and younger players. We gained promotion to the 3rd Division in the first year, where the squad continued to grow and quality improve.

The current manager, Alan Parry, saw an opportunity to move the club forward with a ground move to the 'Play Football ' complex which is in Thornton, at the back end of the Borough of Sefton. The pitches and amenities here were far superior in quality to the last ground which had served us so well for many years, but this was like playing at Wembley. Of course the fees reflected this but it was well worth it.

After escaping relegation in the first year in the 3rd Div we gained several more players of quality which led us to the runners up the following season and promotion to the 2nd Divsion. One season in the 2nd and now we're in the first afterbeing pipped to the 2nd div title by local rivals Waterloo OB by 2 points.

A bit misleading the Old Boys part as it suggests, just that. Quite the contrary, in fact. We now have a squad in the region of 15-16 players, most of all are between the ages of 18-23 years of age, with the odd old timer ( Colin Bell ).
