The team was founded in 2015 by SM Football Academy. The academy aims to provide young players with the opportunity to develop their football skills and knowledge in a professional environment.
The team has enjoyed some success in recent years, winning the Macclesfield Cup in 2022. They have also reached the semi-finals of the Welsh Premier Academy League Cup on two occasions.

The Welsh Premier Academy League is a football league for under-16 teams in Wales. The league was founded in 2012 and is currently sponsored by Principality Building Society.
The league is divided into two divisions, the Academy Northern Division and the Academy Southern Division. The top two teams from each division qualify for the Welsh Premier Academy League Cup.
The current champions of the Welsh Premier Academy League are Cardiff City.
