Renan Oliveira was founded in 1970 by a group of friends who wanted to create a football team in Sousa. The team's first president was José Carlos de Oliveira. Renan Oliveira played in the Campeonato Paraibano Primeira Divisão for the first time in 1971. The team finished in 12th place in its first season.
Renan Oliveira has won the Campeonato Paraibano Segunda Divisão on three occasions, in 1994, 2006, and 2022. The team has also won the Copa Paraibana on two occasions, in 1995 and 2006.
