VFL Rayo Vallecano was founded in 2007 by a group of Spanish immigrants who wanted to create a football team in Ballynahinch. The team was named after Rayo Vallecano, a professional football team based in Madrid, Spain.
VFL Rayo Vallecano quickly rose through the ranks of the Northern Amateur Football League, winning promotion to the Premier Division in 2012. They have since established themselves as one of the top teams in the league, regularly challenging for the title.
