VIM SC was founded in 1954 by a group of students from the University of Ghana. The club's name is an acronym for "Victory in Motion".
VIM SC played in the Ghanaian lower leagues for many years before being promoted to the Ghana Premier League in 1972. The club won the Ghana Premier League in its first season in the top flight, in 1973.
VIM SC also won the Ghana FA Cup in 1972 and 1979. However, the club has not won any major trophies since the 1970s.
