DDSL Football League
The Dublin District Schoolboys League (DDSL) is a football league for boys and girls aged 5-18 in Dublin, Ireland. It is the largest schoolboys league in Ireland, with over 10,000 players registered.
History
The DDSL was founded in 1960 by a group of school principals in Dublin. The league initially consisted of just a few teams, but it has grown rapidly over the years. In 2019, the DDSL had over 1,000 teams competing in its leagues.
Structure
The DDSL is divided into a number of divisions, based on the age of the players. The youngest players compete in the Under-5s division, while the oldest players compete in the Under-18s division. There are also a number of cup competitions, including the DDSL Cup and the DDSL Shield.
Famous Players
The DDSL has produced a number of famous players over the years, including Robbie Keane, Damien Duff, and Stephen Ward. Keane and Duff both went on to play for the Republic of Ireland national team, while Ward has played for Wolves, Burnley, and Aston Villa.
