Eerste Klasse
The Eerste Klasse is the fourth tier of the Dutch football league system. It is divided into ten leagues, each with 14 clubs. The champions of each league are promoted to the Derde Divisie, and the bottom two clubs are relegated to the Tweede Klasse.
History
The Eerste Klasse was first introduced in 1956 as the highest amateur league in the Netherlands. It was renamed the Hoofdklasse in 1971, when the Tweede Divisie was introduced as the new third tier. The Hoofdklasse was renamed the Eerste Klasse again in 2016, when the Derde Divisie was introduced as the new fourth tier.
Current season
The current season of the Eerste Klasse is the 2023-2024 season. The champions of each league will be promoted to the Derde Divisie, and the bottom two clubs will be relegated to the Tweede Klasse.
