The league was founded in 1921 by a group of local football enthusiasts. The first season consisted of just 6 teams, but the league has grown steadily over the years. In 1997, the league was sponsored by Accrule Ltd, a local engineering company.

Rules
The league follows the rules of the Football Association. Matches are played on a Sunday and each team plays each other team twice, once at home and once away. The top team in each division at the end of the season is promoted to the next division, while the bottom team in each division is relegated to the next division.
