Villa 2nds hosted Comber Rec 2nds at Adams Park last night, in a 6:30pm kick off. The home side emerged victorious in a thrilling 4:2 encounter after a spirited second-half comeback. Referee Paul Costello oversaw this derby contest.

The match began with Comber Rec taking an early lead in the 18th minute through a fortuatus goal via a huge deflection, that caught the Villa defence off guard. Despite Villa’s efforts to regain control, Comber Rec doubled their advantage in the 38th minute with another unbelievable goal of fortunte, this time from long range, leaving Murray with little chance. However, the visitors’ joy was short-lived as they were reduced to ten men just two minutes later when a Comber Rec player received a red card for a bad tackle on the edge of the box, shifting the momentum ahead of half-time.

At the break, Villa trailed 0:2 but were buoyed by the numerical advantage and the prospect of mounting a comeback. The second half saw a tactical substitution in the 57th minute, with Daniel McFarland replacing striker Carson Mann to inject fresh energy and creativity into the attack.

Just two minutes after coming on, McFarland provided a pinpoint cross for Kyle Irwin, who opened Villa’s account with a well-worked team goal in the 59th minute. The visitors’ frustration was evident as they picked up two yellow cards in quick succession at 61 and 63 minutes, further hampering their ability to respond.

Irwin struck again in the 64th minute, this time scoring directly from a corner kick, to level the scores at 2:2. Villa’s confidence soared, and they pressed forward relentlessly. In the 71st minute, McFarland once again delivered a precise cross, this time meeting the head of Kyle Irwin, who's header was brilliantly saved, but landed at the feet of Thomas Drysdale, who tapped in to put the home side ahead for the first time.

The momentum continued to favour Villa as Drysdale doubled his tally in the 76th minute, finishing off a slick team move with an assist from Irwin’s cross. Villa made another change in the 77th minute, bringing on Joshua Colville for central defender Jake Rainey to freshen up the defence and maintain the lead.

The match grew increasingly physical, with Curtis Shannon receiving a yellow card in the 81st minute before being substituted for Paul Mulholland a minute later as Villa sought to manage the game’s intensity. Comber Rec’s frustration boiled over after games conclusion, resulting in two yellow cards for dissent for the Rec's management team.

Abbey Villa’s spirited second-half performance, spearheaded by the influential Daniel McFarland, and Kyle Irwin, deservedly, secured a memorable 4:2 victory. The home side’s resilience and tactical adjustments proved decisive in overturning a two-goal deficit and claiming all three points at Adams Park. Very hard to choose a MOTM award, especially between both Kyle & Messi. Both were fantastic in the 2nd half. The introduction of Messi definitely changed the game. But stats don't lie. With 2 goals & virtual 3 assists.

MOTM: Kyle Irwin
