The match began with Villa probing for openings, though early attempts from Carson Mann in the 14th minute and Jake Wilson in the 18th minute failed to trouble the Willowbank goalkeeper, with Mann’s effort going wide and Wilson’s shot saved. Mann again fired high over the bar in the 21st minute, and James Edwards also saw a headed effort sail over the crossbar at 25 minutes. Thomas Drysdale tested the keeper with a saved attempt in the 31st minute, signalling Villa’s growing dominance in the attacking third.

The breakthrough came in the 35th minute when Jake Wilson delivered a precise cross into the box, allowing Daniel McFarland to finish clinically inside the area and open the scoring for Villa.
