AFC TITANS 4-2 Chapel House FC

Am Cup Round 2

Matthew 28:10 - Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, the saving of penalties in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Am Cup round 2: The River View Stadium was the venue as AFC Titans entertained Chapel House FC from div 3A.

A good solid start from The Hosts as they had Chapel on the back foot from the off. Composed play from all lead to some intricate passing down the flanks. Mick Dougan pounced onto a smart pass to put fellow striker Liam Price in to open his account for the season with a close range shot on 5 mins.

Not to be out done Mick himself grabbed his 13th of the season on 19mins to cap off some good football by The Titans.

At this point it looked like an easy passage into round 3 for The Blues but The Visitors had other ideas. Just after the restart Chapel House came close on several occasions as they started to dominate. A school boy error from Gareth Dorber resulted in a penalty awarded to Chapel on 30mins.

A poor penalty to the bottom left corner had Matty Farrar stretching as he kept it out then cleared the follow up. 2-0 the score remained and The Titans were let off the hook.

Chapel did manage to sneak a goal 5 mins later from a dubious offside position to get back in the game. More pressure ensued from The Visitors as The Home side didn`t look interested.

40mins and Chapel House FC were awarded another penalty, again a dubious decision from the referee for hand ball.

Undeterred from the previous penalty save, Matty Farrar made light work of the save to again keep out Chapel from the spot.

HT: 2-1

All looked doom and gloom for The Titans at half time as they gave up possession too easily in the first half and look like not advancing through to the next round.

More of the same in the second 45 as Chapel had the lion’s share of the ball, putting The Blues under pressure from the off. It only took 15 mins of the half for The Visitors to draw level with an opportunist shot from the edge of the box which sneaked into the top corner. The Home side looked like they were going to crumble under the pressure as they ran out of ideas.

Inspirational substitutions from the Titans management again paid dividends as they found a little form in the last 30 mins to go ahead on 72. Some good battling from Liam Price down the right wing put Mick Dougan in for his second shortly followed by a solo effort from Danny Longley on 80 mins that put the game out of The Reds reach.

Overall a poor game from The Titans perspective but a well fought game from Chapel house that deserved more from the game.

Onwards and upwards into the 3rd round.

Well done.
