Brimington Utd F.C....1  AFC Walton.....7

Top of the league AFC Walton, stretched thier consecutive win run to FOUR games @ Thistle Park today, against a Brimington Utd side that they last met in May 2009. That day it was billed as Butchers Arms V. Boythorpe, with the hosts gaining promotion with a 5-0 win. A number of players from both sides played that day, but it was more significant as on that day, after the final whistle, Benny took the reins of the team, and as they say, from that point, the rest is history. Within 90 seconds of the start, the visitors had the ball in the net, a good move ended with a Brimington defender putting the ball past his keeper, but an AFC player had strayed offside, and the goal was chalked off. The Brimington keeper raced from his area on 3 minutes, as Wright chased down a through ball by Paul Walton, as he cleared the ball, striaght through the window of someones greenhouse, he collided with one of his defenders. He was able to continue after lengthy treatment, even if he was still groggy. Wright was unlucky on 5 mins, latching onto a long ball from Bettney, but despite his efforts, he was unable to keep the ball from going for a goalkick.

AFC took a deserved lead on 10 mins, a ball to Mitchell, saw him wriggle past his marker, before picking out BROWN who finished with a first time right foot strike, in the process notching the clubs 600th goal ever, in all competitions. Within a minute Goodwin went agonisingly close, firing a smart shot across goal, and just wide of the upright. On the quater hour, a fine run by Brown picked out Bennett, his shot rebounded back to Brown, whose snap shot was cleared for a corner as AFC pressed home thier advantage. The hosts went close on 19 mins, winning a free kick 25 yards from goal, the shot was well blocked in the wall by Wright, and although it fell into the path of a Brim player, he rushed his shot and fired well over. From the goalkick AFC went down field, and a long ball over the top by Lee Walton was seized upon by MITCHELL who calmly rounded the keeper, and rolled the ball into an empty net.

The clubs highest ever goalscorer then got his name on the scoresheet on 26 mins, a carbon copy long ball this time by Bettney played in WRIGHT to cooly finish the move for 3-0. The mad 10 mins for AFC ended on 30 mins when the visitors notched a FOURTH, a quick thinking short corner by Bennett was collected by Brown, who swung over a first time cross, Goodwin made a nusience of himself in the 6 yard area, and the ball dropped to MITCHELL who fired in from 12 yards. Furniss who had been a  virtual spectator till now, was plunged into the action on 31 mins, when he pushed away a firm shot across goal and grabbing the ball at the second attempt. He was in action again on 40 mins, this time pulling off a much better save, diving to his left to claw away a fierce long range strike for a corner As the end drew to a close, the goal of the game was scored, a ball from Lee Walton picked out PAUL WALTON and he ran on before looking up and sublimly lobbing the keeper from an acute angle, and into the corner of the net. HALF TIME Brimington Utd F.C...0  AFC Walton....5

Benny kept the same 11 at the start of the 2nd half, but not for the first time this season it was AFC who conceded the first goal of the half on 49 mins, Furniss was under pressure as he went for a ball into the box, it squirmed up into the air and was headed towards goal, Megyesi did his level best to head off the line but the ball went to a Brim striker who bundled the ball into the net from close range. Mitchell went close on 55 mins after a ball over the top by Bennett picked him out, but his first time strike was well held by the keeper. Danny Brown raced up the wing feeding off a Bettney pass on 65 mins, his fine run and cross was met with a simple tap in by LEE WALTON from 3 yards out. Benny made his first change straight after the goal, bringing on Higginbottom replacing Megyesi and switching Silcock to left back. The Brim keeper made a great save on 69 mins as he clawed away a cross from Brown after a fine run by Paul Walton. It became a one man mission as Jez Mitchell attempted to seize yet another hat-trick as AFC carved out plenty of chances. The Brimington defence were constantly being pushed back on thier heels time and time again as the game wore on and they began to run out of steam.

Bonson replaced the influentual winger Danny Brown on 79 mins and he wasted no time getting into the action, he was ticked off by the Referee soon after coming on for a particularly robust challenge by the touch line. Mitchell went close again on 81 mins firing a stinging shot into the side netting with the keeper well beaten. Benny played his final card on 83 mins swapping Miles and fetching off Silcock, as the game came to a close. A cross from Wright was met with a Paul Walton volley on 86 mins, but his powerfull strike cannoned back off a defender. Just as the Brimington Management team were begining to congratulate themselves on drawing the second half MITCHELL struck again to register his THIRD of the game as Bennett played him through, he ran on before firing past a defender and the keeper on the line. FINAL SCORE  Brimington Utd....1  AFC Walton....7 AFC now have TWO weeks from Division 5 duties as they now pit thier wits against two higher division sides in the Cup Competitions.
