Chesterfield Sunday League Division 3

AFC Walton....16  Hady Bridge F.C....1

Records (personal and team) tumbled by the boat load as AFC Walton DESTROYED lowly Hady Bridge at Rother Recreation this morning (sunday). Benny had many difficult decisions to make prior to the kick off, due to the vast majority of his 20 man squad available for selection. They kicked off defending against a strong winter sun in thier faces, but it only took 3 minutes for them to break the deadlock, a wonderfull trap and pass by Bennett from inside his own half sent MITCHELL free, he carried the ball on before sublimly chipping the on rushing keeper. Bennett went close on 9 mins connecting superbly with a crisp left foot volley from a Lytham cross, but the shot arrowed inches over. The hady keeper clutched the ball from just under his crossbar on 11 mins, following a Goodwin header from a Spencer long throw. As AFC drove forward Lythams shot struck the post after a Lee Wright flick on sent him clear on 13 mins. 2 mins later a cross swung in by Megyesi saw another Lytham shot saved, and the keeper grabbed theball at the third attempt.

It was obvious from the pressure that AFC wer'nt to be denied for long and it was the mercurial MITCHELL who grabbed his 100th club goal, joining the only other centurian Lee Wright on 18 mins, a Lytham ball through saw the striker get a lucky frst shot rebound off the keeper back to him and he then made no mistake. Things did seem to calm down for a while then as Hady carved a couple of half chances of thier own. The best chance coming on the haf hour, when a clever Danny Welbeck like flick saved by Furniss. MITCHELL claimed his hat-trick 3 mins later after being tripped some 28 yards from goal, he dusted himself down before leaving the keeper flat footed as he calmly curled the free kick over the wall and into the far corner of the net. Goal number 4 came on 37 mins, a Bettney corner caused mayhem in the Hady defence, before MEGYESI popped up at the far post to fire home to grab HIS 50th club goal, and in the meantime making him the 3rd highest LEAGUE GOAL scorer for the club. AFC were shocked back into reality with 5 mins of the half remaining, a defensive error saw the ball played in and a shot that went past Megyesi beat Furniss's desparing dive and go into the net. Mitchell almost restored the 4 goal lead right on half time, but was unlucky to see his shot come back off the post after Lee Waltons fine ball up the line saw Lytham put in a smart cross to pick him out.  HALF TIME AFC Walton...4  Hady Bridge F.C....1.

Lytham wrigged clear of the visitors defence 4 mins after the restart following a long penetration run from Bettney, but his first time cross saw Mitchell miss kick and the chance went. It was clear from all the pressure the hosts were inflicting, that the visitors were going to buckle, but no-one was prepared what the last 35 mins had in store. On 54 mins SPENCER was on hand to smash the rebound in, after another Mitchell free kick had crashed back off the post to him. Mason then replaced Bennett in a like for like substitution before the restart. Straight from that a mistake by Megyesi saw Furniss called into action making a fine save. It was then the AFC one way show to the end. Strong work by Goodwin on 57 mins saw him set up LYTHAM  who slotted his shot past the keeper. On the hour MITCHELL grabbed his FOURTH of the game and AFC's EIGHTH after Danny Brown pounced on a mistake out on the wing, fed Lytham who crossed for the striker to do the rest. Benny then had the opportunity to bring on Miles to replace Megyesi with the game well won. DANNY BROWN then got his name on the score sheet after again stealing the ball off a defender before a smart 1-2 with Mason saw him take the ball on, cutting inside before crashing his shot past the keeper. It then became a deluge as Mason made himself provider again on 69 mins, a corner from Mitchell was flicked back in by the sub, leaving SPENCER with a simple tap in. He then decided it was time he got HIS name on the score sheet, it took him precicely 4 mins to do that, a fine through ball from Bettney played him eyond the defence and MASON just cooly slid the ball under the keeper. He grabbed his 2nd and AFC's 12th within 2 minutes to smash another club record (Previously 11-0 against Hunloke last season), another Mitchell corner was swung in,but cleared, Wright nodded the ball back into the danger area, and MASON rose highest above the defenders to power hs header home. This saw the introduction of Bennys last Substitute with Higginbottom replacing Brown at Right Back. On 79 mins it was another tap in as the Hady defence crumbled, Lytham crossed for MITCHELL to prod home, despite howls of offside from the visitors ranks. Sadly they gained the ONLY caution of the day as one player argued a case too far. Higginbottom then turned provider as his long raking ball in from out on the wing found WRIGHT  in the box, he again saw his shot hit the keeper, but was there to stab the ball home. Mason then secured his 3rd ASSIST of the game after a long ball had picked him out, he crossed for LYTHAM to grab his hat-trick with a simple tap in on 88 mins. There was still time for another goal however, a long Spencer throw dropped invitingly for LEE WALTON to ram the ball home from 20 yards out. This is AFC's SECOND highest LEAGUE win after a 16-0 win at Miners and Diners some 3 Seasons ago. Other major League home wine are the afformentioned 11-0 Vs Hunloke, 11-3 Vs Winster in 07/08, 10-2 Vs NWMW 07/08.  FULL TIME AFC Walton.....16  Hady Bridge F.C.....1
