Chesterfield Sunday League Division 3

AFC Walton....6  Wingerworth Baley Mow FC...1

AFC kicked off thier home league program, with even more selection headaches, for manager Benny here @ Rother Recreation Ground  tonight (thursday). Adding to Sundays missing and injured list was Megyesi, Miles, Goodwin, Mason and Cartwright. But on the plus side Benny welcomed back previously suspended Lee Walton and Simon Bonson back into the fold. They indeed went straight into the starting 11, with the manager opting for a more defensive 4-4-2 after conceding 3 goals to West Killamarsh last time out.

It was AFC who drew first blood, Dean Brown nodding the ball on for LYTHAM to prod the ball between 2 defenders, he and Walton raced for the ball, but it was the former who slotted the ball past the keeper into the bottom right hand corner of the net. A great solo goal by SPENCER working himself a shooting chance with some clever footwork, beating the keeper down to his right from 8 yards out. It was Barley Mow who dragged themselves back into the game somewhat fortuitously, beating Furniss with a shot that looped over the unlucky keeper who was stranded off his line. DANNY BROWN then registered his trade mark strike, keeping up with his impressive start to the season. Another Jordan Spencer trade mark missle long throw brought about AFC's FOURTH, the keeper flapping at the throw and DEAN BROWN nipping in round the back to head the loose ball home. As the half wore on it continued to be one way traffic and a fierce shot from Bonson strook a defender on the hand and the Referee pointed to the spot. BETTNEY stepped up and smashed the sho into the bottom right hand corner, giving the keeper no chance. With just 4 mins remaining LYTHAM grabbed his SEVENTH goal in just four starts since joining the club Dean Brown superbly held off a defender leaving the young striker free to turn in the box and fire low into the left of the net for 6-1. HALF TIME AFC Walton..6 Wingerworth Barley Mow FC...1.

The second half was never going to hold the same sort of excitment of the first half but it was still good entertainment, with Keeper Billy Furniss called upon to pull off two amazing saves to keep Barley Mow at bay as they strove to get back into the game.  Callam Lytham and Danny Brown both went close striking the post with snap shots at goal. Whitehead and Bennett performed heroics in defence with both putting in a great shift as indeed did all the players who pulled on a Walton shirt. Jerome Silcock replaced Simon Bonson on 70 mins after running himself ragged down the wing and 5 mins later Higginbottom came on at right back for Ricky Silcock for the last 15 mins. FINAL SCORE  AFC Walton...6 Wingerworth Barley Mow FC...1. The win pushes AFC Walton up one place to 3rd with 2 wins out of 2. Silver Birches take over from Barley Mow at the top with White Swan holding on to 2nd spot.
