Chesterfield Napits Sunday League Division 1

Eckington Boys F.C.....4   AFC Whitecotes......1

Match Main Points.

1st Min. GOAL !! Worst possible start for AFC who had to start with Scothern in goal and Mason up front with Lytham, due to Wells (working) Mitchell (ill) Wright (suspended) and Widerman who sensationally quit just over an hour before kick off. Goodwin returned after a long term injury, but it was also to be the club captains last game. Back to the Goal a Bradbury header back was woefully short of reaching Scothern, the Eckington striker nipped in and took the ball around the stranded keeper who got his foot to the ball, but the stiker stroked the ball into the empty net.

6th Min Crisis for AFC as Scothern recieves a blow to the nose after diving bravely at the strikers feet. After lengthy treatment he manages to continue.

10th Min A fiercly struck bending shot was superbly pushed away by Scothern as Eckington threatened to run riot.

12th Min The Eckington keeper saves smartly as AFC fashion a decent chance at last.

15th Min AFC caught short again as an Eckington effort was cleared, then a snap shot whistles over the bar.

23rd Min Scothern again makes a fine save as a cross is almost turned in, but the keeper pushes the effort wide.

32nd Min GOAL !! Eckington grab a deserved second goal, a free kick is whipped in Scothern leaps above a ruck of players to punch to edge of box, but AFC defenders slow to react and striker fires a stinging shot into the net after it crashes down and in off the crossbar.

44th Min AFC spurn a major chance to pull a goal back right on half time, Harcourt stinging strike from 10 yards is pushed away by the keeper and Mason is bundled over right on the goal line as he tries to convert the rebound. Bettney steps up and fires the spot kick over.

HALF TIME   Eckington Boys F.C....2  AFC Whitecotes.....0

Manager Paul Walton replaces out of sorts Shaun Goodwin with himself but Eckington are handed another goal within 5 mins of the restart.

50th Min. GOAL !!  Eckington snatch a 3rd and decisive goal, Scothern pushes away a chance but from the resulting corner the hosts score as a player climbs unchallenged to head powerfully home.

53rd Min GOAL !! Another dreadful mistake at the back sees Scothern left short again as he is rounded by an Eckington player leaving AFC with a un surmountable challenge to try and over come.

68th Min GOAL !! At last AFC grab at least a consolation goal back, Mason does all the spade work and MEGYESI clips his shot across the keeper and it bobbles away from defenders and goes in by the far post.

70th Min The one and only caution of the game after one of the hosts players find himself yellow carded for a VERY ROBUST challenge.

FULL TIME    Eckington Boys F.C....4   AFC Whitecotes....1 A game better soon forgotten, got to be AFC's WORST ever performance in a week that will be known forever as "THE WEEK FROM HELL"  Losing players all over the field for one reason or another. Then quitting the weekly 5-a-side training at Queens Park, something the team has done EVERY WEEK for about 4-5 years. Things have got to change VERY, VERY QUICKLY if all the hard work is to come to nothing. The team lies in 4th Place in the 1st Division a face what now looks a daunting game away at Tibshelf Town on sunday in the 3rd Round of the Derbyshire Senior Sunday Cup.
