DRONFIELD MINERS....1  BRITANNIA F.C...0

After 3 wins out of 3 in the league, Britannia were full of confidence going into the hastilly re-arranged game at Dronfield, that had to be an afternoon kick off, due to both teams pitches being unavailable in the morning. The game started at a slow pace with Britannia looking a little out of sorts struggling to cope with the slope. Dronfield went close after 2 mins just firing wide of the target, they went close again on 7 mins Furniss dithered a little before slamming his clearence against a Miners attacker and the ball just looped over the bar.

Britannia mustered their first decent chance on 10 mins, a superb through ball by Megyesi set Mitchell away, but he was well tackled as he got into the box. Moments later a stop and turn by Scott Bennett found Danny Brown out wide but his fine cross came to nothing as Britannia finally got into gear. Danny Brown fired wide seconds later, a great move by Mitchell found  Megyesi, who in turn put over a great low cross.

It went wrong for the visitors around the quater hour mark, first a long ball decived Whitehead, but he was rescued by his keeper Furniss with his trademark race from goal and tackle but shortly after a corner in wasnt dealt with, Danny Browns attempted clearance just shanked up into the air and fell to a striker whose pinpoint shot pierced the Brits defence.

They almost drew level on 18 mins, a fine pass by Mitchell was controlled by Scott Bennett, who took his time before placing his shot past the flat footed keeper but his effort CRASHED against the post. Miles then recieved a caution for a reckless tackle just 25 yards from his own goal. Coming up to the half hour a corner by Britannia was far too deep, Miners were swift on the break and it was Furniss rushing from goal that saved the day again. Bennett was unlucky AGAIN on 32 mins Mitchells strong run and pass found Brown on the wing, he beat his man for pace, but his cross just went behind the in- rushing striker.  Brown went close again as time came to a close firing over from a Mitchell run and cross. HALF TIME Dronfield Miners Arms F.C..1 Britannia F.C...0.

Britannia started the second half with renewed vigour, Brown went close again within seconds of the restart, but the keeper saved well. a cross and shot by Miners fizzed just wide on 50 mins and at the other end a cracking ball by Higginbottom found Mitchell whose cross hit the keeper. Just before the hour mark Mitchells curling free kick crashed back off the post with the keeper beaten again. It was all Britannia and it had to be all hands on deck at the back for the Miners as the visitors had a strangle hold on the second half.

With just 20 mins to go Mitchell went close again, hitting the bar direct from a corner with the keeper beaten all ends up. On 78 mins the hardworkng MOTM Danny Brown made way for Bonson with Benny hoping to inject a little more pressure on the home side who were visibly wobbling under pressure, but as Brown left the pitch he had an unsavoury spat with Mitchell, something Britannia are going to have to iron out of their game. Mitchell however recieved a caution soon after making it 2 bookings in as many games. Dronfield defended in numbers as the game wore on and at times were hanging on to the slender lead. Scott Bennetts game came to a crunching end with just 5 mins to go, a nasty tackle that was later to be more serious than first thought ending his game....and possibly his season, leaving Lawrence to come on. Time eventually ran out for the Britannia and the home side were relieved to hear the final whistle. FULL TIME Dronfield Miners Arms...1 Britannia F.C...0
