ACE OF CLUBS....1 BRITANNIA F.C....8

With a week of recriminations and a defeat behind Britannia, it was time that the football did the talking out on the pitch. The Brit set off at their usual pace forcing Ace of Clubs onto the back foot from the off. A throw out on the left inside the first minute, saw Wright streak through the hosts defence but his crisp shot came back off the post. Moments later Waltons first time shot flew just over as Ace found themselves pinned back. It was no suprise when Britannia took the lead after 6 mins, a fantastic ball over the top from Bonson set WRIGHT clear he hit his first shot against a defender, but was on the spot to roll the rebound home.

Although Britannia bossed the first 10 mins they allowed their hosts back into the game they were caught at the back when Whitehead missed his clearance but the shot just went over. From the goalkick Taylor mistimed his tackle giving Ace a free kick some 30 yards out, the free kick was floated in but not cleared and the striker controlled the ball before firing across Furniss into the corner for 1-1. On the quarter hour another free kick given away by Taylor saw the striker gain a free header but it was well smothered by Furniss. The stopper was called upon again a minute later after a mix up at the back, making a fine save at the strikers feet.

Danny Brown went close after 25 mins after being set free by Walton, but heis shot went wide. After this Britannia took the upper hand again, and were back in front on 27 mins,WRIGHT picked up the ball just in the hosts half and traded passes with Goodwin befere the in frorm stiker fired home. Waltons fine run was brought to a halt with a foul out on the left, but he put the free kick just wide. He almost found the net on 36 mins when his fierce shot rattled off the underside of the bar, and although Brown reacted first and rolled the ball in, he was harshly adjudged offside. WALTON got his just desserts however on 43 mins, a cracking ball through by Megyesi saw him race towards goal, the keeper made a hash of coming out and the temporary striker scored at the 2nd time of asking giving the half time score a more realistic look. HALF TIME Ace Of Clubs...1 Britannia F.C....3

At the break Benny ed off Taylor who was having a mixed game for red hot in form striker MITCHELL who repaid the managers faith within a minute, a fine run and cross by Brown was rolled in from 3 yards out. Wright won a penalty on 50 mns after being brought down in the box, he elected to take the spot kick hiself but the keeper stuck out a foot and made the save. BROWN got onto the score sheet on 53 mins after fine work by Mitchell saw the wide man make no mistake. A free kick on the edge of the box by Mitchell fizzed just wide moments later.

Britannia made it 6 on the hour, Mitchell won the ball out wide and just inside the hosts half before pushing forward and finding Brown, he beat his man before crossing into the box and WALTON stabbed the ball home. A fine snap shot from Ace was well saved by the alert Furniss, who for long periods was a spectator as Brit threatened to run riot again. Megysi's superb ball up the line found Wright, the striker cut in but shot just over.

On 77 mins a fine, mazy run into the box by Mitchell won the visitors a corner, he himself took the kick and MEGYESI rose in the box to head home despite being under pressure by the keeper. He could have doubled his tally moments later, with a neat volley from a cross by Brown, but was adjudged wrongly offside by the flag happy linesman. On 80 mins Lawrence replaced Bonson who was begining to feel a niggle on his hamstring. And the new man soon got into the frey making a fine interception at the back. WALTON grabbed his SECOND hat-trick at the Ace of Clubs ground in 2 games finishing off a fine move by Wright. Double figures could EASILLY have been reached again as it was another fine showing by Britannia, who have really got to grips with the higher division, and yet again it was a great performance by Furniss making fine saves at vital times, Bennett spraying great balls all over the park and Whitehead solid at the back but it was Danny Brown who was deemed man of the match by the referee, over all another solid game FULL TIME Ace Of Clubs...1 Britannia F.C...8
