BRITANNIA F.C...2 DRONFIELD MINERS...0

A 3 minute "double strike" by red hot striker Jez Mitchell secured the points for Britannia at Somersall Park this Sunday morning. Benny made 1 or 2 changes to the side that thrashed Brampton Rovers Res the previous week with Hardy replacing the injured stopper Furniss in goal, Whitehead coming in at full back to replace Bonson. And Mitchell coming in up front to replace Scott Bennett.

Megyesi went close inside 5 mins putting the ball across the box forcing a defender to hook the ball over the bar. Moments later Britannia SHOULD have taken the lead when Mitchell was tripped just inside the box, but skipper Goodwin blazed the spot kick wide of the upright. He made ammends however on the quater hour after trading passes with Higginbottom, he lifted the ball over the Miners defence for MITCHELL to race clear and lob the onrushing keeper for 1-0.

It was deja vous just 3 minutes later, Paul Walton this time picking out the "killer pass" over the top, with MITCHELL again lobbing the keeper to double the advantage. Goodwin went close on 20 mins, he traded pases with Danny Brown before unleashing a 35 yard piledriver that the keeper did well to tip over. Britannia were pushing forward at every opportunity and causing the vistors problems. Mitchell was running the show by himself, and at times the only way the visitors could stop him was to bring him down. Dronfield carved out their ONLY chance of the 1st half on 35 mins, when Whitehead was robbed out wide, the Miners strikers shot whipped across the face of goal but went wide and safe.

A free kick given away by Higginbottom 40 yards from goal was lifted into the box but was well claimed by Hardy. A snap shot by Brown went agonisingly wide. And on 40 mins Mitchell was brought down out wide, he took the free kick himself and it drifted just over with the keeper flat flooted. A pass by Goodwin to Mitchell saw his effort go just wide, and seconds later an inch perfect free kick by Higginbottom from just inside his own half, picked out Wright by the far post, but he failed to control his header, as Britannia tried to kill the game off before the break. HALF TIME Britannia F.C...2 Dronfield Miners F.C...0

Britannia started the 2nd half as they had finished the 1st, on the front foot, Wright burst through before lifting the ball over the keeper, but a defender raced back and cleared off the line. Within a minute a smart back header by Walton suffered the same fate after also being cleared off the line. From this point Dronfield mounted a response pushing Britannia back for for long periods, Hardy at this time came into his own making vital saves to keep his team in front. One notable save on 56 mins diving smartly to his right blocking the ball with his arm. At times Britannia tried to play too much football in dangerous positions, causing the defence problems.

Mitchell went close with 20 mins remaining, firing just over the bar. Hardy made a smart save again on 77 mins tipping a long range effort over for a corner. Dronfield kept pushing forwad trying to get a way back into the game. Scott Bennett came on with 10 mins left replacing Walton to try and take some pressure off the defence by holding the ball up front. Taylor came on with 5 left for Shane Bennett to shore the home defence up, and they successfully saw the game out to register only their 2nd League CLEAN SHEET of the season. FINAL SCORE Britannia F.C...2 Dronfield Miners F.C...0.
