Home league match played on 30 January 2011.
Kicked off at 10:30 AM

In the previous match against Boca, Avonmouth were fortunate to win 3 –2 so another difficult time was expected in today’s encounter. This appeared to be the case during the first half when for the first 25 minutes Avonmouth had dominated possession without creating any real chance to score.  However, it was Boca who nearly took the lead when their striker found some space in the box and shot past keeper Callum Davis but Jack Hewlett was alert enough to get back & clear the ball before it could cross the line. This woke up the home team & on 28 minutes they opened the scoring. Haydn Curtis cleared the ball out of defence & following some good play by Lukas Tsiopani & Montel Riches the ball eventually fell to twin brother Jeriel who shot pass the advancing Boca keeper. No further chances were created during a hard fought first half with the game remaining a midfield battle.

Half time: Avonmouth 1 AEK BOCA 0

Straight from the kick off Avonmouth looked more positive, quickly looking for the second goal. First, a great run on the right by Tsiopani ended with a shot just wide by Ollie Lewis & this was soon followed by a shot just over the bar by Mitch Harris who also then slipped while shooting wide of the post. The second goal had to come & deservedly did after 48 minutes. On the right hand side & in his own half Mitch Day sent a great pass out towards the left to Jeriel Riches who after a good run sent over a perfect cross which found Harris who sent his header into the corner of the net. Avonmouth now playing with confidence started to play some great attacking football. After a great run on the left Charlie Parker cut in & saw his shot hit the post & shortly afterwards the same player produced a good save by the Boca keeper. With the pressure mounting another goal had to arrive & on 64 minutes dually came. A free kick from Hewlett was played into the box & following a good turn Sam Reynolds was able to slip the ball past the keeper low into the net. With a few minutes left Parker got the goal he deserved. A good pass by Tsiopani found the striker who went pass the keeper, however there was still a lot to do but he calmly took his time & coolly picked his spot putting the ball past the players on the line into the net.

Similar to the recent game against Longwell Green today saw another good solid all round display by the team & again showed great patience before getting the opening goal. Another pleasing aspect was again the performance of the defence who deservedly managed to keep a clean sheet against a good team. It is worth noting that before today Boca, after us, where the second highest scorers in the division & to restrict them to only 1 real attempt on goal says a lot for the defensive side of the team who had a game plan & strictly followed it. After dropping only 2 points all season & with 8 games remaining this win helps cement our position at the top of the table.
