Away league match played on 03 April 2011.
Kicked off at 10:30 AM

After becoming champions last week Avonmouth came into today’s game in a confident mood & under little pressure. With this in mind they laid siege on the home goal & created a catalogue of missed chances. From early corners Mitch Day headed just over & a Haydn Curtis header produced a good save by the goalie. It then became a shooting contest against the home keeper. On several occasions through balls by Curtis, Sam Reynolds & Jack Hewlett gave the normally prolific striker Mitch Harris great chances to score but each shot was either wide or saved by the keeper. Then another pass by Curtis gave Hewlett an excellent opportunity but his thunderous shot hit the bar. Hewlett than went on a mazy run from his own half but this time his shot went just wide. However, after 25 minutes the breakthrough arrived. A cross from the right caused confusion & the ball eventually arrived to Hewlett, who after good ball control produced a great finish with his shot high into the net. Although not quite at their flowing best more chances came Avonmouth’s way but the half time whistle arrived with some how only one goal between the teams.

Half Time: Fry Club Juniors 0  Avonmouth 1

Surely in the second period Avonmouth could not be so wasteful & within a minute of the restart the second goal arrived. A good pass by Reynolds gave Harris another chance to score & this time his dipping shot was hard enough to get past the outstretched hands of the keeper. On 45 minutes Avonmouth gained another corner & from Josh Beecham’s cross the ball fell to Jeriel Riches whose smart acrobatic volley from close in gave the keeper no chance. A few minutes later Reynolds fed the ball into the box & when the ball came loose, Reynolds following in, hit a ferocious left foot shot into the back of the net. Fry’s only had 10 men but despite this they fought for every ball & although not having any real opportunities they did pull a goal back on 57 minutes. A good run on the left by Gideon Stone ended with him having a shot on goal which keeper Callum Davis could only parry & the loose ball fell to the inrushing John Goodfellow who stroked the ball into the empty net. This was only to spur Avonmouth on & they managed to get 3 more goals in the last 10 minutes. First a great turn in the box by Hewlett created a chance for himself to slide the ball pass the keeper. This was soon followed by a pass from Ollie Lewis, that found Luke French with enough time & space to round the oncoming keeper & then coolly placed the ball into the net. Finally, it was left to Hewlett to grab his well earned hat trick when a good pass from French gave him the chance to run on & place the ball pass the advancing keeper & into the net.

On another day with so many chances created the Avonmouth goal count could have been well into double figures.  There was some excellent football played but we will have to be more clinical in front of goal if we are to gain good results next season where chances will be harder to create. However, it was another good win. Congratulations must go to striker Mitch Harris whose goal today was his 100th in the league for the club & in only his second season with us – a great achievement, well done.
