In a commanding display at the Goan Institute Sports Grounds on 13 April 2025, Ayala Athletic FC secured a 2-0 victory against True Talents of Africa in the county league.
The match kicked off at 4:30pm, and Ayala's performance was marked by tactical discipline in the high press and clinical finishing, ensuring they took all three points.
Ayala Athletic FC lined up in a 4-1-4-1 formation, which provided a solid defensive base while allowing for fluid attacking transitions. Edwin Kamonde took his place in goal, shielded by a back four consisting of Brian Muthini on the right, Collins Ngugi on the left, and the central defensive pairing of Duncan Angira and Peter Ragui. In front of them, Eugene Ochieng operated as a defensive midfielder, tasked with breaking up opposition play and linking defence to attack. The midfield was bolstered by the attacking prowess of Melton Odhiambo and Steve Masa on the flanks, with Shadrack Mande and Jarvis Bahati occupying central roles to support lone striker Victor Wafula.
The match began with both teams probing for weaknesses, but it was Ayala Athletic FC who struck first. Shadrack Mande, who was instrumental throughout the match, opened the scoring with a well-placed shot that found the back of the net, sending the home crowd into raptures. His ability to find space and create opportunities was a constant threat to the True Talents defence.
As the first half progressed, Ayala maintained control, with Eugene Ochieng effectively breaking up play and distributing the ball to the attacking midfielders. The combination of Mande and Bahati in the centre proved too much for the opposition, as they orchestrated several attacking moves that kept True Talents on the back foot.
The half-time whistle blew with Ayala leading 1-0, a scoreline that reflected their dominance in both possession and chances created. The players returned to the pitch with renewed energy, and Ayala continued to press for a second goal.
In the second half, Ayala's relentless pressure paid off when they doubled their lead. A swift counter-attack saw the ball transition from defence to attack in a matter of seconds, culminating in a precise finish from Victor Wafula. His goal not only secured the points but also showcased the effectiveness of Ayala's tactical setup, which allowed them to exploit the spaces left by True Talents.
Despite a spirited response from True Talents of Africa, they struggled to break down Ayala's resolute defence. Kamonde remained largely untroubled in goal, with the back four effectively marshalled by Angira and Ragui, who dealt with any threats that came their way.
As the match drew to a close, Ayala Athletic FC maintained their composure, ensuring that the scoreline remained unchanged. The final whistle confirmed a 2-0 victory, a result that highlighted Ayala's strong performance and tactical acumen.
Shadrack Mande was rightly awarded the Player of the Match for his influential display, contributing not only with a goal but also with his overall play that linked midfield and attack seamlessly. This victory places Ayala Athletic FC in a strong position as they continue their league campaign, showcasing their potential to challenge for top honours this season.
